This belt is cut from a single layer of 10oz full-grain vegetable-tanned leather, 4mm thick, taken directly from the thickest part of the hide. There are no layers to separate, no glue to fail, no synthetic coating to crack. What you are wearing is one continuous piece of leather from Tärnsjö Garveri, a Swedish tannery operating since 1873 with a Royal Swedish Purveyor designation. The leather is aniline dyed in deep black using soluble dyes that penetrate the full thickness of the hide. There is no pigment layer on top, no topcoat paint covering the surface. The colour you see is the colour of the leather itself, which means it does not peel or flake and it does not hide the natural character of the hide underneath.
The defining feature of the Heritage Gunslinger Western Leather Belt Black is the gunslinger stitch pattern that runs the length of the belt. This is a traditional Western decorative stitch pattern, characterised by its scalloped peaks and diamond-shaped valleys, originally used on heavy-duty gun belts, holsters, and back billets. It is a pattern with real history behind it, and on a black belt it reads as something between classic Western and sharp contemporary. The stitching is done with heavy-duty Gütermann thread and it is as durable as it is distinctive. It is the detail that makes this belt work equally well with raw denim and boots as it does with a dark trouser and a leather shoe.
The Heritage Gunslinger Western Leather Belt Black comes with a solid brass centre bar buckle. Brass is the right hardware for this belt. It will not rust, it will not corrode, and over time it develops its own patina that sits naturally alongside the ageing leather. The edges are burnished and lightly hand-waxed.
